In my opinion, with jewelry market on Etsy being so saturated, especially in the low end costume jewelry department with so much mass manufactured stuff being marketed as handmade, you are more likely to be able to make sales and turn a decent profit if you are using higher quality materials to make your things. The problem is more that unless you already have an established trusted source, you often don't really know what you are buying when you buy direct from China, especially with stone and metals. I'll totally validate your frustration in trying to find legitimate suppliers as Google search gives so many results that are based out of China, which in and of itself is not the issue, as a lot of the things from major legit retailers are manufactured in China. I think Golden Age actually started out as an Etsy shop. A few other sources that sell to the public and I like are Lima Beads, Happy Mango Beads, and Golden Age Beads.
